Gold Engraved Signet Ring Commissioning Gift

A gold signet ring is more than a piece of jewellery—it’s a meaningful commissioning gift that marks achievement, identity, and legacy. At Alan Bick, each signet ring is handcrafted to order, offering a truly personal way to celebrate milestones such as graduations, career commissions, or family heritage.

Bespoke 9ct Yellow Gold Signet Ring with Cold Stream Insignia, made in Hatton Garden London by Alan Bick

Traditionally worn as a symbol of status and belonging, signet rings are a perfect gift for a significant life moment, representing pride, accomplishment, and enduring style—an heirloom in the making, designed to tell your story for years to come.

Design

Commissioning a gold signet ring gives you the freedom to create a truly unique piece, tailored to your individual style and story. Every detail can be customised, including the shape, weight, finish, and engraving style, ensuring a completely personal result.

From bold, traditional oval faces to more refined modern cushion profiles, each design balances contemporary elegance with the heritage of this iconic jewellery style. The result is a signet ring that feels both timeless and distinctly yours.

Material

Traditionally, signet rings are crafted in classic 9ct yellow gold, valued for its durability and timeless appeal. However, you may also choose 18ct yellow gold for a richer colour and higher gold content, or opt for contemporary platinum for a modern, premium finish with exceptional strength and longevity.

Engraving

Your signet ring can be fully customised with your chosen design to create a truly personal piece. Our specialist 3D engraving technique allows for exceptional depth and detail, bringing your design to life with precision and clarity. Whether you choose initials, a family crest, or an army regiment insignia, each engraving is crafted to reflect your story and heritage.

The result is a timeless keepsake—rich in meaning, beautifully detailed, and designed to be treasured for generations.

Re-sizing

We can professionally resize your signet ring if any adjustments are required. All resizing work is carried out by our experienced craftsmen to ensure precision and care throughout the process. Any engraving or personalised detailing on the ring is carefully preserved, maintaining the integrity and finish of your bespoke design

Timescale for Bespoke Signet Rings

The creation of your bespoke signet ring typically takes 2–3 weeks from start to finish. This includes the full design and manufacturing process, as well as engraving your chosen personalisation onto the table of the ring.

More intricate designs, such as detailed family crest seal engravings or complex 3D motifs, may require additional time to ensure every detail is executed with precision and craftsmanship. Each piece is carefully made to order, ensuring a high-quality finish that reflects your vision.

How is a Signet Ring Resized?

Resizing a Ring to a Smaller Size

If your signet ring is too large, a jeweller will cut out a small section of the band, reshape it, and then carefully solder it back together. The ring is then polished to remove any visible seams, and any stones are checked to ensure they remain secure. This method is the most common way to downsize a ring while maintaining its strength and aesthetics.

Resizing a Ring to a Larger Size

If you need your ring to be larger, a jeweller can stretch the band slightly if only a minor increase is needed. However, for a more significant size increase, additional metal will be added to the band to expand it. The new section is seamlessly soldered into place and polished to match the original design. Stretching is only possible for simple bands and we would not recommend this for a signet ring as it may alter the table of the signet ring including your engraving.

How to Determine Your Ring Size

If you are unsure about your ring size, you can use a professional ring sizer, visit a jeweller for an accurate measurement, or use an online printable ring size chart. Keep in mind that finger size can fluctuate due to temperature and humidity, so it’s best to measure at different times of the day. Having an accurate measurement before purchasing or resizing your ring ensures a perfect fit and avoids unnecessary adjustments.
